Running the World's Largest LGBTQ Comic Con

Flame Con is a venture of the non-profit Geeks OUT, and is a comics and pop culture event geared towards the queer community. Flame Con first started in 2015, during which I served as Assistant Art Director. In 2016 I rose to full-fledged Art Director of the show. From 2017-2019 I was promoted to Chair of the event, running the entirety of Flame Con with the help of dedicated volunteers. Under my tenure leading the event, we went from a Brooklyn-based small-size convention of 2,000 attendees, to a Manhattan-based mid-size convention of 7,500+ attendees. While in recent years I have delegated much of the design to my creative team, I am still responsible for the core look of the show. I developed the event’s palette and style guide, the event’s media kit, and created the Flame Con website. I even hand print and mount much of the event’s signage. While I have stepped down into an advisory role in 2020, I am still heavily involved in the production and continued success of the convention. It is worth noting that Flame Con is a 100% volunteer endeavor, and every cent made from the show goes right back into the community and growing the event.

There was an undercurrent of joy that I hadn’t felt at similar events…

Multi-Day Culinary Event

I have worked on the SAVEUR Blog awards from 2015-2019. Since 2018, I have served as the event’s Art Director. The SAVEUR Blog Awards is a multi-day spree through culinary institutions of a new American city each year. It is a design behemoth, requiring hundreds of individual design elements (only a sparse handful are shown on this page). I design everything from badges, to emails, to landing sites, to tent cards, to event programs, to panel collateral, to event awards, to the actual award ceremony video. It is a careful concert of multiple design specializations. From hand prototyping, to voice recordings, to animation, to print design; I directed the entirety of the event’s designs.

Custom Event Space

Each year, Bonnier Media’s outdoor titles host the Sportsman’s Lounge at the SHOT Show Shooting sports convention in Las Vegas. From 2011 – 2017 I assisted in material production of the lounge; contributing items like video reels, miscellaneous signage, etc. From 2018 – 2020 I assumed the role of art director for the space. This expansion entailed coordinating the entire look o the show floor, and creating expanded collateral pieces, such as 10 ft tall wall scrolls, and event invitations; both print and digital.
